5S Red Tag Station

Let’s face it – it’s not always easy to get your team to remember to 5S Red Tag items that don’t belong in their work area. One way to make it easier for them is to have 5S Red Tags nearby or at point-of-use. This 5S Red Tag Station make it easy for people to get and use 5S Red Tags. This larger version has two 5S Red Tag holders for increased capacity and an easy to follow instruction on how to fill out the red tags. 5S Red Tagging is not a one time only event, keep your area clear and perform 5S Red Tagging often.

The Red Tag Station includes:

  • 250 5S Red Tags
  • A “One-point” Lesson on how to fill out 5S Red Tags
  • Free Kanban Replenishment Card

The board is magnetic dry erase, 24 inches wide x 18 inches high. The sign holder is for the One-point Lesson on how to properly fill out a 5S Red Tag. You can also use it for other important paperwork or notices like 5S Audit Scores, upcoming events or team information. Make your 5S Red Tag Station an integral part of your work area.

5S – Sort

5S Red Tag Technique

The first “S” in the 5S System is “Sort” which means to sort through and sort out. Tag items in your work area that are no longer needed to help clear the area of clutter. A quick thumb rule is – if you are not going to use it in the next 30 days then move it out of the immediate work area. Clearing unneeded items out of the immediate workspace is the first step to having control over your area. The 5S Red Tag identifies: the item, who moved it, the date it was moved and the reason it was moved (such as: not used here, obsolete, capital item not needed, broken and so on). Other information can be written on the tag as needed. Then, move your tagged items to the Red Tag Holding Area for disposition. The Red Tag Holding Area is a temporary area where items can be held until the disposition is made such as: keep, recycle, donate, sell, etc.

The professional looking tag helps your team take 5S seriously and is actually part of the 4th “S” in 5S – Standardize and the 5th “S” Sustain. Have plenty of these tags handy and available so you can red tag anytime by using a 5S Red Tag Station. The 5S Red Tag will continually remind us that we need to be vigilant so that items do not clutter our work areas.

Remember the slogan for Sort, “When in doubt, move it out.”
